0.5% of Singapore's workforce are long-term visit complete holders
About 0.5 per cent of Singapore’s workforce, or 17,890 workers, are long-term visit move (LTVP) and long-term visit pass plus (LTVP+) holders as of December 2020, stated Minister of State for Manpower Gan Siow Huang on Tuesday (Mar 2).

Of this, 190 or around 1 per cent are self-employed, she said in response to a Parliamentary issue by MP Leon Perera (WP-Aljunied) on the existing amount of LTVP and LTVP+ holders and how many are self-employed.

Foreign spouses and children of Singapore citizens or long lasting residents (PRs) are among those who can apply for an LTVP. Spouses are eligible for LTVP+, which can be of an extended validity and healthcare subsidies, if indeed they have been wedded for at least 3 years or possess a Singaporean kid, among other criteria.

Spouses or kids under 21 years out of date who hold such passes can obtain a Letter of Consent to job in Singapore. Different LTVP holders, which include parents of residents or PRs, could work in Singapore if indeed they have a normal work pass, said Ms Gan.

To Mr Perera’s additional dilemma about whether LTVP or LTVP+ holders face obstacles to appearing self-employed, Ms Gan said: “To be classified just as self-employed, they also ought to be hired by the same organization for which they are listed simply because director, partner, limited spouse or sole proprietor found in ACRA’s (Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority) records.”
