5G Mobile Service Draws 1 Million Subscribers
10 June, 2019
5G subscribers are expected to surpass the 1 million mark this week, some two months after the service was launched.
By Saturday some 900,000 customers had subscribed to 5G services from Korea's three major mobile operators.
In early April, Samsung's Galaxy S10 was the only 5G-enabled smartphone in the domestic market, but LG's V50 ThinQ joined the fray on May 10.
Some 700,000 of the Samsung phones and around 200,000 of the LG phones have been sold so far, and at this pace the total number of 5G subscribers will cross the milestone this week or early next week, an industry insider said.
The increase is faster than for the 4G LTE service, which drew 500,000 subscriber in the first month and another 500,000 subscribers two months later.
