A Smartphone Case That Can Sprout Wings And Take Aerial Selfies? Yes, Please!

Mobile phone cases have had a revolution of their own. From cupcakes, dogs, Pikachu to poop - they come in all shapes and sizes. But this mobile case is about to bring the house down because it can do what no other case can - fly!

Most of the time, selfies are way more convenient than talking to a stranger or your waiter and asking them to click a photo of you and your friends. But what happens when the group is too large and your arm is too short? Or you need the camera a step further back to catch the entire outfit you put together for the evening?

AEE Aviation Technology believes it has a product to do just that - one that’ll relegate the selfie stick to the trash can. The Selfly is basically a smartphone case that turns into a pocket-sized drone, so you can click your selfies without having to even stretch out your arm.

Thankfully, the case doesn’t fly with the phone still attached. After all, you wouldn’t want your iPhone floating 6 feet off the ground when the battery on the drone runs out. Instead, you just slide your smartphone out when you want to take a wide-angle selfie and set the case free. It’s got a built-in 1080p camera that relays its real-time view to your smartphone, and you don’t even have to be a drone pilot to grab a photo. Using “control by picture manipulation”, all you have to do is pinch to zoom or swipe to shift the frame you’re looking at and the drone positions its camera for you.

The Slefly’s battery supposedly gives about five minutes of flight time, which AEE Aviation says translates to about 15-20 selfie manoeuvres before it falls below 15 percent. It’s also slim enough that a phone with this case on should still fit in most pockets.

The Selfly is on display for the first time at CES 2018 right now so, if you have $130 (approximately Rs 8,300) lying around, you can pick up a truly quirky (and somewhat unnecessary) smartphone accessory later this quarter.
