Alibaba generates US$30.69 bn in sales on Double Eleven
Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba achieved a total transaction volume of 213.5 billion yuan (US$30.69 billion) in a single sales day during the Double Eleven Shopping Festival on November 11, The Paper said.

Transaction volume increased by 26.93%, compared to that of 168.2 billion yuan last year. It is also 4,270 times that of the amount of 50 million yuan in 2009 when Alibaba first set up such a shopping festival on its e-commerce platform Taobao.

The total logistics orders reached a new record high of 1.042 billion.

At least 237 brands, such as Apple, Midea, Haier, Xiaomi, Nike and Adidas sold over 100 million yuan on the same day.

And 60.3% of the transactions were completed through Alipay’s fingerprint and face recognition technology, which is Alibaba’s digital wallet.

It was supported by Alibaba Cloud’s newly added 10 million cores of computing power, which is equivalent to 10 large data centres.
