Apple set to permit ads on iPhone application notifications
08 March, 2020
In a change from its plan of not allowing programs to use notifications to drive advertisements, Apple has changed its App Store guidelines, reported the 9to5Mac site.
Depending on the user, this may be a welcome approach or maybe more spam to handle. For example, Music programs could notify you of the most recent songs to get, shopping programs of upcoming sales, and so on. Paid upgrades too could be pushed using this route.
But don’t worry, you still have the power to choose whether you need to receive the ads or not.
Apps must have explicit permission from users before it starts displaying promotional articles on notifications. And whether or not you tend to see advertisings, you can definitely opt out. Those are the conditions under that your new App Store guidelines permit apps to employ the notification feature.
The change in rules employs Apple itself was found flouting its own ban on using notifications for promotions, advertising and immediate marketing. In the past two years, Apple has delivered notifications with promotional material of its own, which brought up the issue of anti-competitive practices.
Meanwhile, Apple will right now allow dating software and fortune-telling software on its system only if they offer a “unique, high-quality encounter”, found in its endeavour to provide simply useful apps, unlike burp and fart software available freely in Android. Apps will also be scrutinised to check if they can be utilised to commit criminal offense or evade police, and such apps will be banned.
