Bangladesh eyes Tamil Nadu as top spot for textile sourcing in India

Bangladesh aims to achieve an annual export target of USD 100 billion in the near future and is seeking sources for yarn and fabric from India.
Currently, the country's monthly garment exports are valued at USD 3.9 billion.
Representatives from Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and Bangladesh Garments Executive Association recently visited Tamil Nadu to explore the possibility of sourcing yarn and fabric from the state, reported The Hindu.
Currently, Bangladesh imports yarn and fabric from China, India, and Vietnam. As per reports, over 85 Indian textile entrepreneurs from the Federation attended the meeting

and discussed the demand for blended fabrics and value added yarns, sustainability related certifications, sustainable practices, sourcing more from India, ready to cut processed fabrics, and demand for woven fabrics in Bangladesh.Prabhu Dhamodharan, convenor of the Federation, said, “Bangladesh wants to increase its apparel exports and source more woven fabric, and processed, ready-to-cut fabric of different fibres from India.”
“About 40 spinning mills and 60 fabric companies in the State are already supplying to Bangladesh,” he said.
