Biden picks female US generals ‘held back over Trump’ for top level military posts
President Joe Biden marked International Women’s Day time by nominating the next and third women to lead a good combatant command found in the US army and by creating a gender plan council within the White House.

US Air Force Basic Jacqueline Van Ovost, the only girl to have reached the rank of four-star standard - the military's highest - was nominated to head Transport Command.

Three-star army lieutenant standard Laura Richardson was nominated to lead Southern Order, which addresses Central and Latin America. She'll as well receive her fourth superstar.

If the Senate confirms their nominations, then Gen Van Ovost and Lt Gen Richardson will observe Lori Robinson, who was simply the first female to helm a military command. She led Northern Order (NORTHCOM) before retiring in 2018.

"Each of these girls have led professions demonstrating incomparable skill, integrity and duty to region," Mr Biden explained while presenting both generals during a short speech at the White House.

"Today is International Women's Day, and most of us need to see and also to recognise the barrier-breaking accomplishments of the women," he added.

“We need girls and males both who have developed dreaming of serving because of their nation to find out this is exactly what generals in the usa armed forces appear to be,” Mr Biden said at the White House. “This is what vice presidents of the United States look like.”

Mr Biden campaigned on bettering racial and gender collateral in the US and pledged a far more different administration. In his remarks on Monday, Mr Biden called for enhancing gender equality in the military and said he’s focused on ending sexual assault in the military.

The nominations come after President Donald Trump’s defence secretary, Tag Esper, and chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Personnel, General Tag Milley, delayed the officers’ promotions to safeguard their careers, according to the New York Times.

Mr Esper and Gen Milley viewed the two as deserving of commands but worried that only bright white men would progress into those positions under Mr Trump, in line with the report.

The US army has 11 commands, all led by four-star generals.

As head of Southern Order on Florida, Lt Gen Richardson will be in charge of US military forces and procedures in Central America, South America and far of the Caribbean. She’s currently commanding standard of US Army North.

As head of transportation command, Gen Van Ovost will handle the military’s vast transportation businesses globally. She’s currently the commander of the Weather Mobility Command.

Basic Lori Robinson, the retired ex - commander of US Northern Command from 2016-2018, was the first female to serve as a combatant commander, based on the White House.

Mr Biden’s announcement on the military picks came the same working day he created a gender insurance plan council within the White House.

The council, created by an executive order, includes an employee of four, three of whom will hold the title of special assistant to the president, according to a senior administration official who previewed the two orders.

The council’s mandate is to work over the federal government’s domestic and foreign policy to fight discrimination and bias, boost monetary security, increase usage of healthcare, and advance general equality through diplomacy, trade and defence.
