Car Parts Suppliers Demand Easing of Working Week Cap
09 June, 2021
Car parts suppliers are actually urging the government to help ease the 52-hour cap in weekly working time because they promise they cannot match their orders.
The request comes as parts suppliers seek to recover losses by boosting output after a shortage of automotive computer chips forced production lines to idle.
Several parts suppliers to GM Korea in a affirmation on Tuesday said they have to catch up after the bottleneck. "We urgently request a temporary easing of the 52-hour cap hence we can offer an ample way to obtain parts," they said.
Many parts suppliers are in threat of closing down once they saw a 40-percent on-year drop on product sales between January and May because of forced idleness. Those of GM's suppliers plummeted 60 percent previous month, when the carmaker ran production lines simply eight hours a day time as a result of chip shortage and a dearth of orders.
