China relaxes duty-free shopping limits for Hainan island

The Chinese resort island of Hainan province will further relax limits on offshore duty-free shopping, increasing the annual tax-free shopping quota to 30,000 yuan (US$4,314.13) per person, according to the new rule released by the Ministry of Finance, The Paper reported.
The ministry said the new guideline will not put limits on the number of purchases. Currently, the quota is 16,000 yuan.
Besides visiting tourists, Hainan residents also can enjoy the duty-free policy as well, said the ministry.
Meanwhile, some home medical devices will be added to the duty-free list, including eyesight training equipment, hearing aids, orthopedic fixation devices and home breathing support machines. Tourists can buy no more than two pieces per time.
