China releases a new plan to boost AI industry

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued a plan on Wednesday to promote the industrial development of the next generation of artificial intelligence, Yicai.com reported.
The plan points out 17 areas as key development directions, including intelligent vehicles, intelligent service robots, intelligent drones, neural network chips, open source platforms and intelligent manufacturing.
The plan also raised development goals, which include achieving breakthroughs in key technologies by 2020, such as smart chips for autonomous driving and algorithms for intelligent vehicles.
Also, the plan calls for the achievement of key technologies in service robots by 2020, especially awareness of surroundings, interaction with humans and independent learning capacity, as well as mass production and the application of smart home service and public service robots.
