China to become largest theme park market: report
10 November, 2018
China is slated to become the world’s largest theme park market by 2020, when the overall number of theme park visitors will surpass that of the United States, according to a report published by AECOM, The Paper reported.
In 2017, the number of tourists in China’s theme parks reached 190 million, an increase of 20% from 2016. But per capita visits still have not reached the level of other developed countries.
The report shows that China currently has 128 city-level theme parks, and it is expected to add about 70 new ones by 2025.
Most of them are in economically developed areas such as South China and East China. The latter region has 34% of the total theme parks.
The report is also very optimistic about the future theme park potential of Central China, which has a large population and strong GDP.
