China to kick off its first International Import Expo
China will launch its first-ever International Import Expo in Shanghai on Monday amid the backdrop of the Sino-US trade spat, Xinhua news agency reported.

The Expo boasts more than 3,000 exhibitors from more than 130 countries, and is expected to debut 5,000 producers from around the world, covering everything from food to medicine, and electrical appliances to cars.

Ministries, local governments and central enterprises across the country have formed about 40 trading groups, together with hundreds of thousands of buyers.

The group formed by the host Shanghai government consists of more than 15,000 buyers, intending to purchase production equipment, medical equipment, cosmetics, dairy products, etc.

The intended purchase amount of production equipment alone will reach 10 billion yuan, according to the report.

Chinese President Xi Jinping will give a keynote speech at the opening ceremony. Prime ministers and other officials from Russian, Vietnam, Egypt and 15 other countries are on the guest list, while the U.S. has no plans to send a high-level envoy.
