Chinese official says Hong Kong electoral improvements will 'protect' international role
Beijing's plans to change Hong Kong's electoral program can protect the city's international part, a good senior Chinese official said on Tuesday (Mar 9), due to critics decry the move as an end of democratic hopes found in the former Uk colony.

Deputy Commissioner of China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs found in Hong Kong Melody Ru-a great told reporters the proposed alterations were an internal subject for China and were needed to "close apparent loopholes and deficiencies" found in the city's political program.

China's parliament, the National People's Congress, is expected to approve on Thursday a resolution that will reduce democratic representation found in Hong Kong establishments and vet any prospects for "patriotism".

The procedures will tweak the size and composition of Hong Kong's legislature and the electoral committee selecting the principle executive further towards pro-Beijing figures. The committee may also be provided powers to select many legislators.

It was "exclusively China's internal affair about how to design and enhance the system", Music said, adding "destabilising forces" had taken benefit of "loopholes" during the past.

Critics have got decried Beijing's moves due to the finish of democratic dreams in the former Uk colony, whose mini-constitution says universal suffrage as it is goal.

Hong Kong came back to Chinese guideline in 1997 with the promise of wide-ranging autonomy and freedoms that activists, who brought elements of the city to repeated halts in sometimes violent protests in 2019, declare are being whittled apart by Communist Get together rulers in Beijing.

Only 50 % of its legislature happens to be picked through democratic vote, a proportion that will shrink beneath the new system. Different seats in the legislature and the electoral committee considered by lower-level, democratically elected district council officials, are expected to be scrapped.

The changes to the electoral system follow some moves by Beijing to reassert its control over Hong Kong and set it on an increasingly authoritarian path.

China imposed a sweeping national security regulation in June this past year and authorities have since arrested most high-account opposition politicians and activists for offences beneath the new law or perhaps linked to the 2019 protests.

Song said China wished to create a fresh "democratic" electoral system, that may "fully respect" the public's democratic rights. He did not elaborate.
