Chinese Premier in Surprise Visit to Samsung Chip Plant

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang paid a surprise visit to a Samsung microchip plant in Xian, Shanxi Province on Monday.
According to Chinese state media, Li said, "The Chinese market is vast and its industries are evolving into high value-added sectors resulting in huge business opportunities."
Li added that China's market will open further and welcomed "continuous investment by global high-tech companies like Samsung."
The visit was part of the premier's tour of businesses in Shanxi Province and Samsung was only told a day in advance.

Samsung has invested US$10.9 billion in China so far and plans to spend more, bringing its total investment to $15 billion.
The semiconductor plant in Xian marks the biggest overseas investment for the Korean electronics giant. The first plant there was completed in 2014, while a second one is currently being built.
