Chinese self-driving tour market continues to grow
An estimated 3.1 billion Chinese took a road trip in 2017, an increase of 17.4% from a year earlier, accounting for 62% of the total number of domestic tourists, according to a report published by Tuniu, a Chinese online travel agency, The Paper reported.

The report shows that the per capita distance of the self-driving tour was 464 kilometers and that the 2-3 day, short and medium distance leisure tour is the mainstream choice.

Meanwhile, 90% chose to travel around cities, compared to the 6% who chose domestic long-distance road trips. Also, only 2% went overseas for self-driving tours.

The report also says that the growing self-driving tour market in China can also be seen from the growing market size of the rental car industry. In 2017, the scale reached 65.5 billion yuan (US$9.64 billion).
