COVID-19: Japan seeks to lift state of emergency for most regions

Japan's government explained on Thursday (May 14) it wants to lift circumstances of emergency declared above the coronavirus in almost all of the united states, though not yet found in the capital Tokyo and other urban centres.
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe earlier this month extended a good nationwide state of emergency until the end of May.
But with infections sharply straight down, his government is currently hoping to lift up the measure early in up to 39 of the country's 47 prefectures.
On Thursday morning, the minister in charge of the virus response, Yasutoshi Nishimura, held talks with a specialist panel, the first step along the way for lifting the measure.
"We have confirmed latest cases have been dropping below the levels on mid-March when infections began to spread," he explained.
"Considering the (stable) health care and monitoring systems found in these regions, we believe that it is appropriate to lift up the talk about of emergency for them," he said, discussing 39 prefectures.
According to local press, the status of emergency will remain in place in eight regions, incorporating Tokyo and Osaka, but another review might be held on, may 21, raising the chance the measure could be lifted prior to the end of the month.
Abe is scheduled to carry a press conference after Thursday to describe the proceed to lift the measure.
