Current Account Surplus Surpasses $10 Billion for 1st Time in a Year
07 November, 2018
Korea's current account surplus exceeded US$10 billion for the first time in a year in September.
The Bank of Korea said Tuesday the surplus stood at $10.83 billion, the highest level since it reached $12.29 billion in September last year.
Brisk exports led the surplus, leaving the current account in the black for the 79th consecutive month since March 2012.
Despite the longest-ever surplus streak, the tourism and service sectors saw heavy deficits as the amount Koreans spent overseas stood at $2.49 billion -- far higher than the $1.36 billion foreign tourists spent in Korea.
