'Drive' to release in first half of 2019
26 December, 2018
The long-pending Sushant Singh Rajput and Jacqueline Fernandez-starrer 'Drive', has hit many roadblocks in the last year. However, we now hear the film has picked up pace and is driving towards an early 2019 release.
Although the makers producer Karan Johar and director Tarun Mansukhani have not yet confirmed an official release date, sources say that the delay was caused due to Karan's dissatisfaction with some parts of the film.
The project was therefore given a shot in the arm with additional shoots and re-shoots to enhance its screenplay. Lead actress Jacqueline confirms the news saying, "So far, we are shooting the patchwork on the film. We are making sure that the film releases early next year."
Earlier the film was slated for a 2017 release, but got pushed for a September 2018 release and didn't materialize. We also hear there is a chunk of VFX work pending on the new edit of the film, only, after which the makers can confirm a release date. "The second half is too packed in 2019.
So, if Karan wants to release the film next year, it has to be in the first half, which means they will need to pull up their socks on the post production." says a trade source adding, "Karan is expected to announce the release date soon."
'Drive' is an official remake of the Hollywood film with the same name, starring Ryan Gosling and Cary Mulligan in the lead. The film is based on a mysterious Hollywood stuntman and mechanic who moonlights as a getaway driver and finds himself in trouble when he helps out his neighbor.
