Dua Lipa denies rumors of performing at World Cup opening ceremony
Dua Lipa has dismissed rumors that she will sing at the World Cup opening ceremony and stated that she will only travel to Qatar after it has made improvements to its human rights record.

After being mentioned as having a performance at the opening ceremony the next week, the 27-year-old pop singer released a message on Instagram stories.

"There is currently a lot of speculation that I will be performing at the opening ceremony of the world cup in Qatar," she wrote.

"I will not be performing and nor have I ever been involved in any negotiation to perform."

"I will be cheering England on from afar and I look forward to visiting Qatar when it has fulfilled all the human rights pledges it made when it won the right to host the World Cup." It comes after FIFA urged nations to concentrate on soccer during the World Cup amid worries over attitudes toward LGBTQ supporters and how migrant workers are treated.

The Qatar 2022 controversy days before the World Cup begins
The migrant workers who built Qatar's World Cup stadiums were allegedly subjected to discrimination, long hours, unfavorable working conditions, wage theft, and other abuses as their employers avoided responsibility, according to a 75-page report published this week by the London-based rights group Equidem.

Following intense international scrutiny, Qatar has implemented a number of labor reforms that have been applauded by Equidem and other rights organizations, although campaigners claim that abuses are still pervasive.

However, Qatar has always refuted claims that the safety and health of the 30,000 construction workers who built the World Cup infrastructure were in danger.

Ambet E. Yuson, general secretary of the Building and Wood Workers' International union, claimed that while other workers in Qatar may not have had the same level of protection, migrant workers employed on World Cup building projects have.

Amid worries about the treatment of migrant workers' rights and the effects of the World Cup in Qatar on the environment, several French cities, including Paris, will not broadcast World Cup matches on enormous screens in open fan zones in October.
