Duty-Free Shops Depend on In-Flight Sales to Nowhere
Duty-free shops are counting on in-flight sales on popular flights to nowhere amid the coronavirus pandemic as airport sales have dwindled to only trickle.

To help cash-strapped airlines, the federal government allows the sale of duty-free products up to speed flights that land where they started.

Lotte had about 1,600 customers on such flights last month, up 3 x compared to December.

The common purchase per person was W1.2 million, practically triple that of pre-pandemic occasions when passengers typically stocked up before takeoff (US$1=W1,115).
