Eight babies and toddlers catch coronavirus in Tokyo care centre
23 April, 2020
Eight very young children at a Tokyo treatment centre have tested great for the coronavirus after an employee member contracted the disease, its operator said about Wednesday (Apr 22)
Tokyo Saiseikai Central Medical center, which operates the service, said the damaged children had been hospitalised, while another 21 tested negative and were under observation.
The facility is for orphans or children separated from their parents because of possible abuse or neglect. Japan depends on institutional caution for nearly all children who cannot live with their father and mother for such reasons.
A staff member tested positive for the virus on Apr 16, prompting lab tests for all the children, a healthcare facility said in a short statement, without disclosing additional details.
Tests are being carried out on 46 workers who are self-isolating at home.
The kids who tested positive weren't experiencing high fever, local media said.
