Emirates to offer vegan dishes on flights throughout Veganuary
07 January, 2020
Emirates is joining the record 350,000 people who have registered to take part in this year’s Veganuary challenge.
The Dubai airline is adding plant-based meals to its in-flight menus to celebrate the worldwide initiative that encourages people to adopt a vegan lifestyle throughout January.
It’s the first time Emirates will have a vegan option on its regular menu. Passengers previously had to request vegan meals at least 24 hours before their flights departed.
The plant-based meals are available in premium classes of travel on flights from Dubai to the US, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Ethiopia. Passengers travelling in economy class from Dubai to Addis Ababa will also be offered a vegan option, inspired by a traditional Ethiopian recipe.
Emirates passengers can opt for tofu jalfrezi, shiitake ravioli, ancho three bean chilli or shiitake fried rice with sauteed asparagus. Misir wat – an Ethiopian style spicy lentil stew is also being served.
Last year, the airline served 345,000 pre-ordered plant-based meals to passengers and the airline's chefs have devised 170 vegan recipes. All Emirates vegan meals come with desserts; the airline also serves vegan cheese and gourmet chocolates.
Regular meals will still be available on all Emirates flights throughout Veganuary.
