Filipino mother and son shot dead by policeman laid to rest

Hundreds attended the funeral on Sunday (Dec 27) of a female and her son shot dead by an off-duty policeman found in the Philippines, weekly after a video recording of the incident went viral on community media, sparking community outrage over law enforcement brutality.
Members of the general public joined as family members and friends found in Tarlac province, north of Manila, paid their last respects to Sonya Gregorio, 52, and her 25-year ancient son Frank Gregorio, who also were shot in the top after a row more than noise.
The shooting, which was recorded on a cellular phone by a member of the Gregorio family, triggered accusations from critics and individual rights activists that President Rodrigo Duterte's war on medications had created a culture of police impunity.
Policeman Jonel Nuezca was first seen in the video engaged in a heated argument with the Gregorios over the utilization of a homemade noise-making system typically used to celebrate the New Time, before he shot the mother and her son.
Nuezca surrendered to police on the night time of the incident and faces two counts of murder. The federal government has promised a thorough investigation.
The victims' friends and family have forgiven Nuezca but continues to be demanding justice, said Avelina San Jose, a member of the family of the Gregorios. "He should face the results of the law", she said.
