France Stars Blame Mbappe For Exit? Pogba Responds!
05 July, 2021
France star Paul Pogba has responded to claims that the rest of squad blamed Kylian Mbappe for their surprise round of 16 exit at the European Championship.
The reigning world champions were tipped as favourites for the tournament but were surprisingly eliminated by Switzerland on penalties earlier this week.
Mbappe failed to register a goal or an assist in the tournament, while it was his missed penalty that sealed France's fate but Pogba insists no one is blaming the 22-year-old.
"Of course not. When we have great players, great things are expected," Pogba told El Chiringuito.
"Everyone expects him to score five goals and to be Euro Golden Boot winner but in my opinion, he created chances, worked hard, gave his soul and left everything on the pitch which is the most important thing.
"He's a great player who will learn from it, he will grow and he'll come back like never before. He's not to blame, it's down to all of us because we're all in the same boat."
