Global COVID-19 fundraising meeting raises $6.9 billion
A global fundraising conference on Saturday elevated 6.15 billion euros ($6.9 billion) from america, the European Commission and various countries to fight COVID-19, with many participants stressing an eventual vaccine ought to be open to anyone who demands it.

The Commission together with the European Investment Bank pledged 4.9 billion euros ($5.50 billion), america $545 million, Germany 383 million euros, Canada C$300 million ($219 million)and Qatar $10 million. Forty governments took portion in the summit.

The money will be utilized for COVID-19 tests, treatments and vaccines, and to support the world’s poorest & most marginalised communities.

Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said it had been crucial that everyone who needed it will get access to a vaccine.

“I am trying to convince high-income countries to reserve vaccines not merely for themselves also for low- and middle class countries. This is a stress check for solidarity,” she explained.

British Premier Boris Johnson concurred.

“If and when a highly effective vaccine is available, then we as world leaders possess moral duty to make certain that it is truly open to all,” he said.

French President Emmanuel Macron was adament about pooling efforts together.

“Let’s refuse an every person for himself procedure, let’s continue to progress together,” he said.

Italy, one of the hardest hit simply by the pandemic, echoed his sentiment.

The EU is championing global cooperation in efforts to regulate and end the pandemic, as opposed to america and China’s give attention to national initiatives.
