GM Korea Breaks Ground for New Paint Shop
28 May, 2019
GM Korea on Monday broke ground on a new paint shop in Changwon, South Gyeongsang Province.
The new 67,000 sq. m facility capable of spray-painting up to 60 cars an hour is expected to open in the first half of 2021.
The automaker shut down an assembly plant in Gunsan, North Jeolla Province in May last year, and the U.S. parent company pledged fresh investment in return for a massive government bailout here.
GM Korea CEO Kaher Kazem said the new paint shop will be an "environmentally friendly" facility to make it competitive.
GM headquarters at the end of last year announced plans to produce two new models here.
