Google's New Selfie App Is A Lot Of Fun, Uses AI Power To Pair Your Face With A Famous Painting

Google has an app that hosts millions of artwork from museums across the world. Famous paintings by famous painters. It's great for virtual tours, but lacks a bit of fun.

And now the company's allowing users of the Google Arts & Culture app in India to match their face to world famous piece of art. Sounds like a lot of fun, doesn't it?

The Google Arts & Culture platform had already rolled this feature out in the US and some other locations last week, and the feature's finally available for Indian users. Google's official line is that it's an experiment that matches your selfie with art from the collections of museums available on the platform.

How does this work?
Download and install the Google Arts & Culture app. Once that's done, users can now take a selfie, upload it, and the app then uses computer vision technology to automatically match it with a work of classical art from one of the several art museums worldwide.

The app even shows an estimated percentage that measures visual similarity between the face and the matching artwork.

The new selfie-feature is just another hook for users to explore Google Arts & Culture. The platform lets you browse through 6,000 exhibitions, from more than 1,500 museum partners across 70 countries, all through the comfort of your smartphone. Not bad eh?
