Google’s Play Store to now allow UPI payments
05 September, 2019
The latest version of Google Play Store should now be able to allow you to complete transactions using your UPI ID, as per a report by XDA developers. The feature is available in the 16.3.37 version of the application, in the payments option of the app under the option of adding another bank/card according to the report. UPI users can use the feature by entering their UPI ID’s into the app and finishing a transaction by authenticating with a pin.
UPI, short for Unified Payments Interface, is a platform for transferring small amounts of money from bank accounts launched by the Government of India in 2016. It gained immense popularity due to its efficiency and, according to a report by ETtech in June, has completed over 240 million transactions.
While Google had first indicated its intentions of introducing UPI among its payment options in the Play Store at its I/O this year, its Google Pay app had been supporting the interface for quite some time.
