GoPro Hero 6 Black Review: The World's Best Action Camera Just Got Even Better
It is difficult to separate GoPro from the action camera segment -- it's such an iconic brand. I’ve played for a while with my friend’s GoPro Hero 4, however, I never really had it for a day or more. So when GoPro decided to send their newest GoPro Hero 6 Black to us, I was really excited to have a longer play time with this tiny camera.

GoPro also sent along its Karma Grip which is a stabilising arm for the GoPro to make it prone to jitters while capturing the moment. The Karma Grip was surely an interesting piece of equipment, which peaked my excitement to start shooting with the GoPro to a whole new level.

Exploring the GoPro Hero 6 Black

On the very first day I got my hands on the Hero 6 Black I couldn’t help but notice how tiny it actually was. Sure, it was slightly larger than the Hero 4 I used a few years back, yet it managed to fit everything in a really compact form-factor.

Moreover, unlike the GoPro Hero 4 Silver, it is water resistant without the need for an additional case, which is awesome. You can record underwater up to 10 metres. You get a Type-C connector for charging and data syncing, as well as a micro-HDMI port, to connect it to external displays and TVs.

The tiny 2-inch touch screen might seem small at first, but upon normal use, it felt just about right. Sure, browsing through the menu was not the most pleasant experience, but it wasn’t very terrible either and takes really little time to get used to. The camera also holds a tinier LED display at the front to look at shooting modes and battery life. The top holds the record button/ shutter.

Playing along with the accessories

One thing I really loved about the GoPro Hero 6 Black, or basically any GoPro in general, is the plethora of accessories available at its disposal. The primary box itself comes with quite a few accessories, to begin with.

You get two adhesive base mounts to help the GoPro attach to any surface like a helmet or a skateboard, or any vehicle. These mounts have 3M adhesive stickers, so they don’t stain the surface they’re attached to. Also, they’re quite sturdy and firm to withstand jerks and bumps. Along with this, you get a frame to help you mount the cameras.

We were also given a few more accessories, which are available for purchase additionally, like the arm and wrist mount, as well as a standard monopod, handle grip called ‘The Handler’. Looking at the accessories, the GoPro Hero 6 Black is versatile for almost any use case scenario.

The Mumbai Ride

I was desperately waiting for the weekend to really try out the GoPro Hero 6 Black, however I was far from it. Two days far to be precise. And I really didn’t want to waste more time, so I decided to strap the GoPro Hero 6 Black to the chest strap of my backpack and capture the Mumbai local in a first-person perspective, during my daily commute to work. Surprisingly this was an amazing test for the action cameras as it had to withstand the jitters and jerks travelling within the local. Its tiny form-factor and dark-grey colour trim made it really discreet, however, many were curious to notice something tiny and rectangular protruding out of my backpack chest strap.
