Gun attack leaves 24 dead in central Mexico
Gunmen about Wednesday attacked a medication rehabilitation centre in central Mexico, killing in least 24 people and leaving seven wounded, local authorities said.

According to preliminary information, the attackers "entered the picture, forced [the victims] onto the bottom and shot them," explained Pedro Cortes, secretary of general public protection in Irapuato, located northwest of Mexico Town in Guanajuato state.

"We have reports that the [armed] topics found its way to a red automobile, no further information is well known. The preliminary statement we have is normally of 24 dead persons and seven wounded," he added.
 
Authorities will work on seeking the vehicle, Cortes said.

The town of Irapuato said in a statement that three of the wounded were in serious condition, but that no-one had been kidnapped during the attack. It added that the area would be off-limits to ensure that an investigation could proceed.

The state of Guanajuato, home to main industry and several large auto developing plants, is suffering from organized crime violence. 

The state's wealth has attracted groups including the powerful Jalisco New Generation and Santa Rosa de Lima drug cartels, which are also involved with extortion, kidnapping and fuel theft.

Guanajuato Governor Diego Sinhue gave his condolences on Twitter and mentioned that "coordinated intervention by federal and talk about authorities is necessary as the only method to successfully confront this situation."

"My personal and institutional dedication is to the victims who dropped their lives or had been injured in this cowardly assault," he added.

On June 21 Mexican authorities announced the arrest of 26 alleged members of Santa Rosa de Lima gang after burning up cars were used as highway blocks in the places of Celaya, Salamanca and Villagran.

Following the violent show President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador explained that his government wouldn't normally permit the country "to fall into anarchy and disorder."

Just days before, six customers of a family group, including a, were reported murdered on Celaya.
