H&M’s fresh kidswear collection transforms plastic material waste into fashion
H&M provides joined forces with Danone Aqua for its latest kidswear collection as part of its Bottle2Fashion job, which transforms plastic bottle waste from the shores of Indonesia into recycled polyester. 

Launching in January 14, the H&M kidswear collection might transform about 3.5 million PET bottles into recycled polyester, which is blended with organic and natural cotton and recycled cotton. The sustainable fibres happen to be then used to create each day kidswear pieces in fashion-forward colors and silhouettes, such as for example coordinating hoodies, joggers and long-sleeve tops in blush pink, bright green, yellow and vibrant blues.

“To give another life to disposable plastic containers simply because recycled polyester is valuable in so many methods - to Indonesia’s environment, market and social values - but also the world and our buyers. And once the youngsters outgrow the clothes, we inspire the items be cut back to us through our garment collection initiative to allow them to be recycled once more.”

The collaboration with Bottle2Fashion also supports the Indonesian government’s initiative against marine pollution, while also generating regional jobs by collecting PET bottles, sorting, cleaning and shredding them into flakes and making them into recycled polyester fibres.   Commenting on the collection, Sofia Löfstedt, brain of kidswear style at H&M, explained: “We wanted to give attention to pieces that children could really be children in - playful, comfy and positive - so hoodies, joggers and some long-sleeve tops. 

“Though the garments can be coordinated, we come up with a wide-ranging colour palette that could be easily blended and matched. I always want to see what kids develop and I hope they will also find out about the bottle2fashion project on the way.”

The H&M kidswear collection, for children aged 1.5 to 14 years, will be available from January 14 online at hm.com. Prices begin from 7.99 pounds.
