Hyundai Breaks Ground on R&D Center in Singapore

Hyundai on Wednesday broke ground in Singapore's Jurong West professional district to build a global research and development center.
The guts will serve as a hub for the carmaker's next-generation electric vehicles and urban air mobility technology.
The guts will measure 44,000 sq.m and open in late 2022 at a price of W320 billion (US$1=W1,146). The roof of the center will include a 620 m runway for high-speed tests and takeoff of UAM vehicles. It will be capable of making a tiny number of customized EVs.
Hyundai said it chose Singapore because of its openness to foreign culture and adaptability to advanced technologies.
Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien-Loong attended Tuesday's ceremony as Hyundai chairman Chung Eui-sun and Korea's Minister of Trade, Industry, and Energy Sung Yun-mo looked on by video link from Seoul.
