Hyundai Releases 1st Large SUV in 3 Years
Hyundai released its new Palisade SUV in Korea on Tuesday after unveiling it at the Los Angeles Auto Show late last month. It is the carmaker's first large SUV since it discontinued production of the Veracruz in 2015.

The Palisade completes Hyundai's SUV lineup, which also includes the compact Kona, small Tucson and midsize Santa Fe.

The car is receiving an explosive response with a surprisingly large number of pre-orders.

Hyundai said it received 20,506 pre-orders in two weeks from Oct. 29, equivalent to 43 percent of last year's total domestic sales of large SUVs of 47,000 cars.

The Palisade is priced at W34.75 million to W41.77 million, compared to Ford's Explorer at W54.60 million and Ssangyong's G4 Rexton at between W34.48 million and W46.05 million (US$1=W1,131).

"It's appealing to people who want a family car or a car for leisure activities, as it is price competitive and has a more spacious cabin than other SUVs in its class," a Hyundai spokesperson said.
