Hyundai Rolls out Korea's 1st Electric Truck
12 December, 2019
Hyundai rolled out Korea's first electrically powered truck on Wednesday.
The Porter II EV is based on the 1-ton Porter truck, the automaker's most popular commercial vehicle, and can travel 211 km on a single charge.
The Porter II EV's engine has a maximum output of 135 kW as well as a 58.8 ㎾h battery and takes 54 minutes to charge 80 percent.
The truck's onboard computer tracks the weight of the load being carried and directs it on the optimum path.
It costs between W40.6 to W42.7 million, but the government is providing W18 million in subsidies (US$1=W1,193). With other promotions the price tag falls to between W16.6 million and W22.8 million.
A Hyundai staffer said the eco-friendly truck "requires half the amount of fuel costs as previous versions and will also benefit from discounts at parking lots and highway tollbooths."
