Hyundai's Sales Double On-Year
04 May, 2021
Hyundai's global sales doubled in April compared to a year ago, though that was mainly because they plunged during the same month last year as the coronavirus pandemic struck.
Hyundai said Monday that sales surged 106 percent on-year found in April to 345,777 cars -- 70,219 cars here and 275,558 cars overseas.
"Sales in most elements of the world had been lackluster in April because of the pandemic, but a distinct recovery is now apparent in North America producing a sharp rebound in earnings."
Affiliate Kia's sales also jumped 78 percent on-year to 275,558 cars, with overseas sales growth of 120.9 percent outpacing household growth of just one 1.5 percent.
But a worsening shortage of automotive semiconductors casts dark clouds over future prospects. In April, simply sales of Hyundai's Kona and Ionic 5, which are low-volume sellers, had been blighted by the shortage.
But in May, it really is likely to suffer declining output of its bestselling Porter pickup truck. The automaker said Monday that production lines at its plant in Ulsan developing the trucks will be halted from Wednesday to Friday.
