30 August, 2018
IKEA has racked up W470 billion in sales in the fourth year since its launch in Korea (US$1=W1,116).
Country retail manager André Schmidtgall told reporters on Wednesday that sales from September 2017 to August 2018 came to W471.6 billion, up 29 percent on-year.
That makes IKEA the third largest furniture company in Korea, after Hanssem with W2 trillion in sales and Hyundai Livart with W888.4 billion.
IKEA country retail manager André Schmidtgall speaks at a press conference in Seoul on Wednesday.
Schmidtgall attributed the increasing sales to a second store that opened in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province last year. The number of visitors to its two stores stood at 8.7 million, up 34 percent on-year.
He added Korea is the Swedish giant's fastest growing market, and it plans to open more stores in major locations including Busan, Yongin, Gyeonggi Province and Gyeryong, South Chungcheong Province.
It will also start online sales and nationwide delivery services this Saturday.
