Immigration operation in Malaysia leads to 185 arrests

A total of 185 foreign men and women were arrested by the Malaysian immigration authorities during a series of operations conducted overnight on Wednesday in Kuala Lumpur and neighboring Cyberjaya district.
A first raid by immigration officers in Cyberjaya saw 166 Indonesians arrested for overstaying their visas, having expired work permits or not having travel documents, the China Press reported.
The second raid was conducted on December 13 at a budget hotel notorious for foreign prostitutes on Jalan Loke Yew, Kuala Lumpur.
Officers made a total of 19 arrests, 18 of whom were foreign, including 13 Thais and three Indonesians. All of the women arrested were suspected of working as prostitutes.
A Bangladeshi man who took care of the alleged sex den was also arrested, while officers seized condoms and a parang knife at the scene.
Preliminary investigations found that the alleged prostitutes used social media platforms such as WeChat to communicate with or look for clients.
