India's COVID-19 vaccination drive hit a good bump on the primary day because of glitches in an application called Co-Win that is being employed to coordinate the advertising campaign, according to several officials involved in the immunisation programme.
Primary Minister Narendra Modi launched what his government has described as the "world's greatest vaccination program" on Saturday (Jan 16) to rein found in the pandemic in India, which includes reported the next highest number of instances after the USA.
Co-Gain, developed by the government, is supposed to greatly help by alerting healthcare employees who are first in line to get shots, and by allowing officials monitor and manage the entire drive.
But many health personnel, who were to get the vaccines, didn't get the message on Saturday, said a senior official with medical department of the western condition of Maharashtra.
"We were likely to vaccinate 28,500 people on Saturday but could do only 18,328 because of glitches in the Co-Win app," the state told Reuters on state on anonymity as the details aren't public yet.
Maharashtra, home to the financial hub of Mumbai, possesses been reach the hardest by coronavirus among all Indian claims.
India was aiming to vaccinate a lot more than 300,000 persons on day one, but only 191,181 people were inoculated on Saturday, official data shows.
In the eastern state of Odisha, officials said they were forced to use printouts because of problems with the app.
"We also went with our method B and contacted persons to be vaccinated directly offline," Bijay Kumar Mohapatra, Director, Overall health Services, Odisha, advised Reuters.
The Indian government didn't respond to a request for comment on Sunday.
"The system performance and speed was improved and is being even more optimised," Manohar Agnani, further secretary, ministry of health insurance and family welfare, said about Saturday.
