Prince Harry spoke of the necessity to deal with institutional racism throughout a speech recorded for the Diana Awards, a ceremony for the charity create in honour of his late mother.

In a video message displayed at the virtual ceremony, the Duke of Sussex said that “institutional racism does not have any place inside our societies, yet it really is still endemic”.

“My partner said recently our generation and the kinds before us haven’t finished enough to correct the wrongs of days gone by,” he said. “I, too, am sorry - sorry that people haven’t got the environment to the area that you deserve it to be.”

The speech came on what would have been the 59th birthday of Princess Diana, who died in a Paris car crash in 1997, when Harry was 12 years old.

Harry paid tribute to the young persons being recognised at the ceremony for their work on competition and injustice, saying he found the “greatest hope” found in them amid the division and anger in the world.
