James Cameron is booed at Avatar 2 premiere, for refusing to sign autographs
19 December, 2022
James Cameron is once again in the spotlight of the entertainment press, after this weekend and after 13 years of waiting, his film 'Avatar 2: The Way of Water' was released. However, not everything was positive for the legendary American director, after this Saturday he was dismissed amid boos, after he refused to stop to attend a group of fans who were waiting for him at the exit of a special premiere of his new project.
Why didn't James Cameron sign autographs?
As he left the WGA building in Beverly Hills on Saturday, there was a crowd waiting for Cameron, but the director was in no mood to entertain his audience. Instead of stopping, Jim simply made his way through without flinching to attend to any of them.
When the fans noticed his attitude, they immediately booed him as he got into his vehicle, which was already waiting for him and also insulted the tape, "F *ck Avatar!"
At the moment it is unclear what had the director so upset. Perhaps it was that the amount grossed for the film's opening weekend was not as good as expected and if this continues, the result could affect the future Avatar sequels that Cameron has planned.
James Cameron bragged about the visual effects he achieved with Avatar
James Cameron's latest project is probably the most ambitious special effects project in the history of cinema and is evidence of the hard work that went into the filming. Before the premiere, Cameron assured that his new film would surpass what has been achieved by any other saga in theaters, in reference to Marvel's successful superhero franchise.
The famed director assured that there would be no comparison between Avatar 2 and any other current film, in an interview with IndieWire and even pointed out that there is an "appreciable and evident distance" between both sagas.
Cameron said that Avatar surpassed what was conquered by any other film and exemplified the level of detail in appearance between the Na'vi versus any other creature designed virtually for film, in terms of textures, color and kinetics of their characters, leaving aside what was done with the powerful villain, "Thanos," played by Josh Brolin in Avengers: Endgame.
"I just want to say upfront that I'm not going to disparage the Marvel or DC Universe, but the difference is obvious," he boasted. This because his series involved a long apprenticeship on the evolution of digital technology in visual effects.
"Obviously, the big comic book movies have been driving a huge volume (of work) from the industry. But, in our case, it's also about expansion and precision. The team at WETA Digital constantly has new hires. Also a fair amount of new cutting-edge technology to develop. Industrial Light & Magic does a great job. However, when it comes to the kind of emotive facial stuff we're doing? Thanos? Come on. It's not even close to what WETA did with Avatar 2," Cameron said.
The question, following the film's release, is: Is the story engaging enough in comparison to what Avengers achieved?
