Japan disposes of a lot more than 7,000 mishandled dosages of COVID-19 vaccine: Report
06 June, 2021
A lot more than 7,000 dosages of COVID-19 vaccine have already been removed in Japan due to mishandling, the Yomiuri newspaper said along Sunday (Jun 6), just as Japan races to inoculate its people amid a fourth wave of coronavirus attacks.
A medical center and a mass vaccination centre each had to get rid of around 1,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine because they expired at place temperature, while 12 dosages went to waste at a ward in Tokyo due to over-dilution, a survey by the daily found.
Omuta National Hospital in the southwestern prefecture of Fukuoka apologised in a affirmation, telling: "We hugely regret having to dispose of the treasured vaccine due to our mismanagement, when many area residents are eager to get vaccinated."
Less than 50 days prior to the scheduled start of Tokyo Olympics, Japan offers vaccinated about 9 % of its persons with at least a single dose, a good slow roll-out among advanced economies.
The country's capital, Tokyo, set to host the once-delayed Games from Jul 23, is under a COVID-19 state of emergency along with eight other regions, as the government struggles to bring the fourth wave under control.
