Johor sultan urges Malaysia government to consider complete lockdown if COVID-19 conditions continue to rise
Johor ruler Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar has needed the Malaysian government to consider "a complete lockdown" if the amount of COVID-19 situations in the country continue to rise.

Sultan Ibrahim released the statement on Wednesday (May 26) night time, the same day time the country reported 7,478 latest coronavirus circumstances, its highest daily climb in infections since the start of the pandemic.

The country has logged more than 6,000 new cases daily for eight consecutive days and nights since it struggles to include a third wave of COVID-19.

“Over 7,400 conditions alone today. That is frightening and we are in need of almost all areas of society to stay residence to break the chain of infections. The virus is propagate through the mingling of individuals," said Sultan Ibrahim.

He added that Malaysians should be disciplined more than enough and practise "self-lockdown" or perhaps risk getting infected unknowingly.

“Therefore, there must be discipline across the board for most degrees of society to invest in a lockdown to avoid the most detrimental from happening to all or any of us. The federal government should consider a complete lockdown aswell, if COVID-19 figures show no indication of abating," explained Sultan Ibrahim.

“Let’s swallow the bitter tablet now, instead of suffering continuously on limbo,” he added.

The federal government had earlier implemented a nationwide movement control order (MCO) until Jun 7 to curb the spread of the pandemic but some people have expressed frustration that financial sectors were still permitted to use.

Furthermore, 60 % of employees in the private sectors together with 20 per cent in the general public sector were permitted to work in offices.

Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has warned that a full COVID-19 lockdown, like MCO 1.0 implemented in March 2020 with all sectors shut, would warranty people’s safety, but there is a risk that the market could collapse.

Mr Muhyiddin said: “If we have to repeat (and roll out financial assistance), we are looking for additional money. RM340 billion will never be enough because the impact is worse. I would have to set aside half of a trillion. But carry out we have half of a trillion?"

“That is why we've learnt during the last year, we can not close the overall economy. We need to balance lifestyle and livelihoods ... I think life is crucial because I do not want people to die because of our or their carelessness. But I also usually do not desire our market to collapse to a spot where people haven't any money to eat," he added.

REDUCE OUR BURDEN ON FRONTLINERS: SULTAN IBRAHIM

In his statement on Wednesday, Sultan Ibrahim stressed that it had been important for "all degrees of society" to invest in a self-lockdown with regard to frontliners, specifically medical staff, who he said have to "bear the brunt of the virus’ onslaught".

“We can look at for ourselves their exhaustion and depression, yet they diligently adhere to their obligations and tasks. Remember, COVID-19 isn't the simply disease they have to deal with," said Sultan Ibrahim.

“Experience pity on them. We must all do our component to reduce the responsibility on them and break the chain of infection for our greater very good,” he added.

Sultan Ibrahim added that he also spoke to Health Ministry director-standard Noor Hisham Abdullah on Wednesday and received an revise on the most recent COVID-19 developments.

He said: “The emergence of new variants is also frightening, and the virus is currently airborne too. If attacks continue to rise, I worry a lot more variants of COVID-19 can look.

“In these uncertain instances, I also urge those people who are capable to step of progress and help others who have fallen in crisis in any approach they are able to,” added Sultan Ibrahim.
