Korea Launches Homegrown Observation Satellite
23 March, 2021
Korea launched a homegrown observation satellite from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on Monday.
The satellite separated successfully from the launch rocket 64 minutes after blast-off and settled into orbit 490 km above the earth 38 minutes later, transmitting signals to a ground station.
The mid-sized satellite weighs 500 kg and will beam down data to assist in Korea's disaster response and monitoring of water resources.
The Korea Aerospace Research Institute collaborated with aerospace and other companies to develop the satellite since 2015 at a cost of W158 billion (US$1=W1,128).
