Korean Strawberry Exports to Southeast Asia Jump
16 June, 2021
Korea exported US$48.7 million of strawberries in the first five months of the year, up 25 percent on-year.
Based on the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs on Tuesday, more than 80 percent visited Southeast Parts of asia. Hong Kong was the largest importer with 35 percent, accompanied by Singapore with twenty five percent, Thailand with 14 percent and Vietnam with ten percent.
Korean strawberries take into account a lot more than 90 percent of Vietnam's import of the succulent fruit and in Singapore for 42 percent.
Some 88 planeloads of these flew to Singapore from last December to April this season, each as high as 11.5 tons.
Korean strawberries mostly target the high-end market such as department stores and so are popular in Singapore than American or Australian kinds even though they are more costly.
"Less than three percent of domestic production is for export right now, so shipments are anticipated to grow" a ministry official said.
