Kosdaq Tops 1,000 Points

The teach-heavy Kosdaq closed above 1,000 points on Mon for the very first time in over two decades.
The junior index closed up 1.14 percent or 11.26 points from the previous trading trip to 1,000.65 points. It was the very first time it rose above the landmark since Sept. 14, 2000.
Since then, leading businesses listed on the Kosdaq have morphed from IT to biotech and batteries, and investors poured profit amid a currency markets boom that started this past year.
Daily transactions averaged a record W10.82 trillion this past year and rose further to W13.24 trillion in the first quarter this season (US$1=W1,126).

Specific investors drive the surge by buying W5.34 trillion worth of shares while institutional shareholders cashed in W2.98 trillion and foreign investors W784 billion.
Specific investors favored biotech stocks, buying W236 billion well worth of Celltrion Healthcare shares, followed by broadcaster CJ ENM (W165 billion), and biotech firm Alteogen (W163 billion).
