A platform named "Leather Development Forum (LDF)" is going to be launched in the country to develop the country's tannery sector.
The platform is likely to be formally launched on October 24 in Dhaka.
In 2018, The Asia Foundation began implementing a project to promote decent work and acceptable working conditions in the tannery industry. The project is focusing on tannery management, supervisors and workers about tannery in-house waste management, occupational Health and Safety (OHS), chemical management, pre-treatment facility, and recycling solid waste among others, according to an official document.
Several organizations and projects in Bangladesh are carrying out different activities for the development of the leather sector.
To ensure that these interventions are as effective and sustainable as possible and to create synergies, greater coordination, and collaboration, and to avoid duplication among these organizations, the Foundation, in consultation with GIZ, focused on establishing the platform, LDF, added the document.
The Foundation, under the Promoting Decent Work and Acceptable Working Conditions in the Tannery Sector in Bangladesh project, reached out to various organizations working for the betterment of the leather sector to be a part of the LDF, where most agreed.
