Earlier this season, the mayor of Hallstatt - a little village in Austria's mountainous Salzkammergut place - was pleading with travelers not to visit.

With daily numbers of around 10,000 people per day piling into the narrow streets of the Unesco World Heritage Site, tourists outnumbered the neighborhood population for a price greater than 12 to 1.

Congestion, visitors jams and overcrowding found in restaurants, retailers and on the lake had become component of everyday life in the village regarded as the inspiration at the rear of Arendelle, found in Disney's popular Frozen.

In China, an exact replica of the city was built-in Guangdong, inspiring thousands extra people to go look for genuine. Hallstatt recorded greater than a million visitors in one year.

Today, the tiny place which sits a great altitude of 511 metres beneath the slopes of the Dachstein collection, is facing the contrary problem.

Travel restrictions devote destination to curb the spread of Covid-19 coupled with the worldwide collapse of tourism features left Hallstatt empty of tourists. And without travellers in town, there is no tourism cash flow for locals.

Located about an hour from Salzburg, Hallstatt attracted around 100 visitors a day before that found Disney fame. Nowadays, as Frozen enthusiasts are forced to "ignore it", visitor numbers are actually lower than that.

Authorities in Austria experience restricted who can enter the country and so are advising that any travel ought to be for essential needs only. The measures are in place to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
