Lingard To Be Used In Massive Player-Plus-Cash Deal?
24 August, 2021
Manchester United could reportedly look to use Jesse Lingard in a huge player-plus-cash deal before the end of this transfer window.
According to the Daily Mirror, West Ham United remain interested in signing the 28-year-old after his successful loan spell in London last season.
After not featuring in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's plans, Lingard joined the Hammers in January this year for the second half of the 2020/21 campaign, during which he scored nine goals in 16 games.
Despite the Norwegian tactician having said that the attacking midfielder will stay at United this season, it is believed that Lingard could push for a transfer in order to secure regular first-team football, with the Red Devils also potentially eager to get him off their wage bill.
With the 20-time English champions still reportedly looking to sign a holding midfielder before the end of August, it has now been suggested the player could potentially be used as a bargaining tool.
United are understood to have previously expressed interest in West Ham's Declan Rice, who appears to have an asking price of about £100 million (R2 billion).
Perhaps in order to bring that figure down slightly, the Red Devils could reportedly offer Lingard as part of a player-plus-cash deal for 22-year-old Rice, although the Hammers are said to be determined to keep hold of the midfielder.
Rice, capped 24 times for England so far, has already made 146 appearances for the London side since his senior debut as a teenager, and is currently vice-captain to Mark Noble.
