Ibrahima Konate and Fabinho returned to the Liverpool line-up after the win over Leicester City, Brentford were without top scorer Ivan Toney who was stretchered off against West Ham United on Friday.

The game was played at a lively pace, but the first chance fell to the hosts when Bryan Mbeumo managed to break free down the right but he was unable to find a way past Alisson Becker.

Brentford went ahead from the resultant corner when Mbuemo's corner took a deflection off Konate and creeped into the near post. The temp showed no signs of slowing down as Konstantinos Tsimikas was denied by Brentford goalkeeper David Raya, while Yoane Wissa had a goal disallowed for offside soon after at the other end.

Brentford and Wissa had another goal disallowed on 40 minutes offside, but the French striker got his reward two minutes later when with a towering header, which was confirmed by the goal-line technology.

Klopp's men got themselves back into the contest five minutes in when Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain nodded home Trent Alexander-Arnold's cross, a minute of Darwin Nunez had a goal disallowed.

Mohamed Salah, who had a quiet first half, carved out a chance for Nunez in the 69th minute but the Uruguayan striker dragged his effort wide of the target.

Any hopes of a Liverpool comeback were dashed in the 84th minute as Mbeumo shrugged off the challenge from Konate before calmly slotting past Alisson.
