McDonald’s to expand in an environmental-friendly way
McDonald’s is planning to open more than 1,800 “green restaurants” in China by 2022, aiming to become more environmentally friendly, The Paper reported.

These green restaurants are designed to meet the “LEED” and ID+C certification standard issued by the U.S. Green Building Council. The latter will account more than 95% of McDonald’s newly opened restaurants over the next four years.

McDonald’s in Beijing will also try to cut the use of plastic straws. Of the 10 pilot restaurants, five will not offer straws and the other five will use newly designed lids for easy drinking.

At present, China is the third largest market for McDonald’s in the world. In 2017, it hosted 1.3 billion customers and sold 500 million burgers.

This means that even small changes in food packaging and the consumption process will affect a massive number of consumers.
